Arrested Dissident FARC Chief in Colombia for Ordering Demobilized People Assassination

A Colombian judge ordered the arrest of a leader of the FARC dissidents accused of being the mastermind behind several crimes against demobilized peace signatories in the Cauca region, in the south-west of the country.

The guerrilla, was identified by the Prosecutor’s office like Jhon Maro Gutiérrez Bahamón and was one of the main leaders of the Dagoberto Ramos paramilitary group of the FARC dissidents.
Gutiérrez Bahamón is being accused of “aggravated homicide, aggravated conspiracy to commit a crime, and manufacture, trafficking, carrying or possession of firearms, accessories, parts or ammunition,” says the Office of the Attorney-General of Colombia on a press note.
The entity also stressed that the charges were not accepted by the defendant, who will have to comply with the prison detention measure.
In this regard, the Prosecutor’s Office specified the investigation is being led by a prosecutor from the Special Investigation Unit (UEI).
The process revealed that Gutiérrez Bahamón had ordered several targeted killings against people who refused to join the illegal armed group and to intimidate communities that opposed their criminal activities in the department.
One of the most serious crimes charged with by Gutiérrez Bahamón is ordering the assassination of peace signatory Nelson David Montaños Márquez, committed on April 24, 2022, in Miranda, Valle del Cauca.
Nelson Montaños, killed on April, 2022 by armed men who intercepted him at around midnight in a public establishment was in the process of being reintegrated, to which he took advantage of the reintegration process as a minor.
